Welcome to the Dão region of Portugal. This cooperative-grown blend of native grapes showcases the terroir of the region with immediate appeal and an eye towards sense of place. The cooperative was established in the 1960s and now boasts over 1,000 independent growers, each of which holds a mere single hectare - just under 2.5 acres - on average. The nose here bursts with crunchy red and blue fruit and the region's granite tones. Crunchy cherry and blueberry aroms mingle with a wisp of pepper and wild spice. The palate is lively with red fruits and a hint of wild herb, culminating in long minerality and a present but easy grip of tannins. A reliable dinner standard, and will pair especially well with herbed chicken, mushroom-rice pilaf, or pork tenderloin. |
