Heaven Hill's single-barrel, bottled-in-bond whiskey is an homage to Henry McKenna, aged for ten years - far beyond the required four. Decadent vanilla and maple open into complex spice, pine, and a touch of citrus peel. The palate echoes the nose with rich brown sugar, brandied cherry, and runny caramel before leading into spiced hot chocolate and a hint of minerals. While there is inherent variation to be expected from a single-barrel whiskey, Heaven Hill's character is persistent in this bottling. A real pleasure to enjoy slowly, or in a perfect Manhattan.
